Just wandering; Is there anyone out there that has successfully established a population of Rosies in their pond, YOY, that has BG and LMB in it?

They are so very visible, it seems they would be the first to be consumed in most pond ecosystems. This was my experience in my new pond. They disappeared, right now!

Makes me wonder if they are almost always a consumable supplied by hatcheries and not sustainable?

Looking for the experiences of others.....

Doubtful. They are just a fathead minnow, they don't do well with LMB or BG.

They are too slow and too easy to catch in a BG and LMB pond... They work great in a new pond where they have a chance to reproduce before other fish are added. They are more of a startup bait that are easy for your young bass to catch as they get started. FHM can reproduce in large numbers when there isn't anything in there to eat them. But once bass are added their time is limited.

I added FHM's (not rosies) to my pond in 2017 before I stocked the gamefish in 2018. The FHM's multiplied beyond my imagination. The first year of the gamefish reduced them to only a few schools at feeding time. I don't expect to see any next year.

The reds have got to be even more susceptible due to their lack of camouflage.

Fish on!,

I had about 3-4 dozen mixed in with a bag of(black)FHM and I still see a few now and again. seems to be more than 1 when I do see them.

So what's the point of adding minnows when they will just get eaten? I added 3lbs and they all got decimated in no time.

FHM are to a new pond what nitrogen is to fresh soil before planting.. Gets things off to a hell of a start, then ya have foliar feed (tilapia, BG, etc)..

Zero point in a fish present pond. Best to save them for the hook or by a good fish food for 1/10 the price.
