We are looking for a pond construction expert to help repair our pond in Carroll County, Tennessee.

A local construction company built the pond in 2013, but it never sealed. Each spring, the pond fills to max capacity, but by August, the pond is near 50% volume. The construction company owner promised, many times, to come find and fix the problem. However, he hasn't returned and even stopped answering my calls, texts and emails.

We've previously assumed the leak was straight down in a sand vane, but thanks to aquatic plant growth, I finally found water leakage through a small portion of the dam. We have a source of local clay to add to the pond, and want to ensure all future work is done correctly.

I would appreciate any pond expert referrals that may be able to help with this project.

Thanks,
Jim

Was it properly cored?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Hi JWH:

Sorry to hear about your leaking issues - re-engineering the pond will likely cost into the deep 4 or 5 figures, but we do help seal ponds in a more cost effective way here on the Forum. Happy to help walk through your options anytime, my time and help is free, just ping me at tj@hudlandmgmt.com.

I saw the contractor dig the core with a trackhoe and dozer, then pack soil with a sheepsfoot roller. I have no way to know if it was done correctly. I do know one area that is leaking through the dam, about 5 - 6 feet down from the top. My guess is this area wasn't compacted or there was sand in the soil.

Thank you for the information. I absolutely want to get the pond sealed. I hope to keep the cost in the "4" digit figure range if possible.

Fortunately, I never really stocked the pond due to the leak. So I won't be too upset if we have to drain it.

I am located near Bruceton, TN (Carroll County), maybe 1.5 hours from Columbia.

I will call the gentlemen at Gray Construction and inquire about an on-site evaluation.
