Hey fellas,
New to the forum and new to Ponds/Lakes in general. My wife and I purchased 2.5 acres and will be having a pond dug to use for fill for the new house.
We will be digging a 1/4 acre pond and i'm trying to see if I can get away with filling it with an irrigation well instead of an artesian/flow well. We don't have the funds budgeted for the flow well and i'm trying to see if I can make it look half way decent with a pump and irrigation well. We're located in Vero Beach, FL which is on the east/central coast of Florida.
Anyone done anything like this before? It's not very big so i'm hoping I can skate by until we have the funds to drill the deep well. Thanks!!

Welcome Creigg. I believe that the electricity cost to run the pump that long will be cost prohibitive.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Hey Dave, I would be running the pump at 220 to lower the amp draw and I don't plan on running it 24/7. We have quite the rain season in Florida so I'm hoping mother nature will help fill it as well. I would say possibly running it 4-8 hours a day like my pool. I will be purchasing the largest HP pump I can so I can get the most water out of the ground in that time.

Heck, why not give it shot I was hoping someone else has done what i'm thinking of doing and confirms it works. I'd hate to waste the money on a irrigation well if the pond evaporates faster than the water going into

There are plenty of variables to consider, but the first one is how much water can the irrigation well supply?
Then consider...
gallons of pond water potential, pond water surface area, evaporation rete for your area, pond seepage (or leak rate), and the amount of water that mother nature will supply.
These variables need to be best educated guesses for the most part, but will give you an idea if your plan is even worth doing.
