My son and I were out replanting ground cover and fertilizing today and noticed a clearing ring around pond about 12 to 16 inches wide. It is more pronounced in wide angle view, it isn’t a shadow or shade. Not a problem but seems odd to me.

I have seen this too and wonder if the suspended particles have a static charge that is repelled by the opposite charge of the ground?

Is it possible that there is simply a couple of inches of clear water on top of the muddy water all over the pond? We see that in the jar test some times.
Where the water is as shallow as the clear layer you get the observed effect.

Awesome catch with the camera. I have seen this before and believed it to be water seeping out of the surrounding soils into a muddy pond. The water seeping into the pond has been filtered by the shore line soils and is clearer than the existing muddy water in the pond. That's my guess.

Uh, that actually makes sense.

This pic is from same area as close up, I took last week of possible perch ribbons. Water is different at that time.
