I've got an emergent plant, or plants, that I can't identify, and any help would be greatly appreciated. My WAG guess is a variation of a Potamogeton, specifically Potamogeton amplifolius.
Both plants have the same alternating stems, have the same green to purple leaves, and both reside in marginal water. The denser patches have 2-3" leaves, and are in very shallow water with little to no slope. The larger plant is leggier, has denser stems and larger leaves, and doesn't root once the water drops off. Both also have hair like fibers that root off of the stems.
I'm not sure about your first photo, but your second and third photos could be a variety of Smart Weed (Polygonum species). Mine, typically, grow out of the water in the moist shoreline soils or even in the yard by the retaining walls, but there are a lot of varieties and some prefer the very shallow waters. Does it put out seed-like clusters of flowers later in the summer? Anyhow, look up the smartweeds for a more positive ID.
QA, thanks. I'll look again, but I didn't go with Smartweed because it doesn't flower like SW, and almost all the plant stems are subsurface. This is the second year I've had it, and it's easy to control, but it's not a plant I've seen in this area before. I keep a list of all my pond's plants, and this is one that has me scratching my head.
