Hello.

Are the larvae susceptible to death if I transfer them from one pond to another.

Only if you temp shock them.. if water temp is kept close and SLOWLY temper to water you are transferring to, you'll be just fine.

Wouldn't it be easier and less likely to damage the little guys by moving the fertilized egg ribbons before they emerge?

I generally agree with BillD. If practical move the egg ribbon or section of it at about any stage of development. When the unhatched fry have dark eyes as the ribbon gets 24-48hr of hatching,,, the fry/ribbon is STILL quite durable and can be relatively easily moved. To move it I would let the ribbon flow with water as a tipped or slanted bucket fills with water that surrounds the ribbon. If you do this at dark eyed stage close to hatching, the process will likely cause some of the most advanced eggs to hatch and you will have fry in the bottom of the bucket's transfer water. Try it this year just for experience and practice.

Hello.

Thank you.

I also think the larvae are very sensitive if there is a difference in the water.

So to be sure there is no water difference I will fill the small pond with the same pond water where I take my larvae.

What do you think.

That should work okay as long as larvae pond water fills the small pond.
