Hello Everyone,

I found this site completely by accident and I have already found it very useful.

As an introduction I recently bought ~26 acres of land in rural Missouri near St Louis and it has a wonderful lake. My wife and I were looking for property for about 5 years that either had an established lake or a location to build one. Fortunately this property has a lake and it is about 1.5 acres.

Here are a few pictures.

These were taken in late summer and it's been a little dry so the lake was down a couple feet. Since then it's rained quite a bit and is at full pool and running out the overflow.

I plan to put in a dock this year and I'm working to clear some of the overgrown willows.

I look forward to meeting some new friends and learning more about maintaining my lake.

John

Welcome John from another Missourian,

It's nice to see your photos that show a nice time of the year. We're frozen over here on the other side of the state and your bright sunny pictures are a welcome reminder of what's around the corner (in a few months).

It looks like you have a good thing going on! You've come to the right place with very helpful pond community.

Welcome to PondBoss.

One friend you should make is Rex -- "Rainman" on the forums. He's a pond guy in your area.

What are your goals for the pond?

Hey, another Missourian. Glad you found PB John. Lots of good info here.
Your pond looks great. Your patience in searching for the right place really paid off.

Thanks...

The plans for now are to clean things up. I have not had chance to do any fishing but the previous owner said there were some large LMB and the neighbors have confirmed. He told me the farmer who farms the property pulled out a 5 pounder. I thought it was kind of funny when he asked if he put it back and was told they ate it. There is also some sort of perch since I could see nesting sites. I figure I will find out for sure in a couple months.

It's about 2.5 hours away. I haven't been through that area in over 30 years. I remember it was flooding and we were the last car to cross whatever bridge it was. A little scary given we were driving through running water. The highway patrol said we had to hurry since they were going to close it.

Thanks everyone else for the warm welcomes.

John
