Not sure about in your climate, but many species of freshwater shrimp live in temporary pools of water. I believe they leave behind eggs that remain during dry periods.
Even the deserts of arizona have shrimp that hatch and live briefly during monsoon rains and may not have favorable conditions to return for several years.
