So yesterday 090418, we stopped at our customers' pond to find this alien growth. In 12 plus years here in Ohio - we have never seen this before:

Any idea of what this could be?

Alien looking is right! Welcome to the forums Thaddeus, you've come to the right place for answers, but I can not help unless you actually want to speculate what solar system that stuff is from...keep the animals (and people too) out of it until you find out what it is!

Someone will be along soon to help, I'm sure. Be prepared for some big words!

Fish on!,

Did they have a heavy plankton bloom immediately prior to this? Could be dead plankton rotting.

If so it's not good. The bacteria chowing on the dead plankton consume a lot of oxygen.
