What would be the best way to increase the watershed, given that there is a valley just past the high ground on the far side of the pond? I do think it is important to have a rock solid overflow plan in place in case of a biblical deluge. "Another year has gone by.... pond is still mostly empty. Marginal drainage and dry year are not a good combination to fill a pond. https://ibb.co/m4qS2p So I terraced the hillside above the pond https://ibb.co/b0WOa9 and ran an 8" pipe over to a well-drained draw 900 feet away, https://ibb.co/d4u9F9 put in a dry dam to divert the water into the pond. https://ibb.co/nQLwTU It seems to be working fine now as runoff added least two feet of water added in the last two rains. Hopefully the pond will now fill over the winter and I can get on with the stocking plan."
