In a recent series of posts the subject of fishing in hot weather came up and it's effect on caught fish. I said something about the stress to the fish and potential mortality, But, I didn't know what water temp that was. So, I texted Lusk. His response was that at 82 degrees, he got nervous.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Thank you sir. I have been holding off for awhile when it comes to anything other than fishing for Bg. They seem to handle the E Texas high temps, or at least I don't find them floating after catch and release. I have been saying No to any fisher person for the past 30 days, other than a young girl who fished off the pier for bg but wound up catching two lmb and 6 hsb. I was totally surprised not to find any floaters after that. Guessing the fish were hand lined due to the rod being too small to handle the fish so they were brought in forcefully with little fight or excess stress. Who Knows why they survived, I had two lmb die after catch and release 30 days ago.

Wow, Tracy, I'm surprised you didn't lose any of the HSB!

I fish BG this weather because we keep a lot of them and the small ones don't seem to bother. We also fish CC but keep all of them basically except fingerlings and they go to the old pond.

I did have about a 4# LMB on two days ago though. Did not want it but it took my 1/64 jig with a tiny Gulp waxie bait. Fortunately the hook was barbless and the fish shook it before I got the net to land it fully. Tried to fight it little as possible to get it released quickly and so far have not seen it dead.

I've been as high as 99 earlier this year. Thankfully we've been in a rain cycle for over a week and now I'm back into the mid 80s. Fish sure seem to appreciate it. They feed much better lately.

83* surface temps at my place yesterday - thats about as warm as she gets! I'm more concerned about no in/out flow, my curlyleaf has all died off in the last few weeks and the FA is gone. I have nothing producing oxygen and no water exchange/movement

90 at surface yesterday at 5:30 pm.
Fish still hammered the pellets for about 5 mins then slowed way down.
That hot water takes its toll.

If that's the floater, it must have a RW over 120. What are you feeding your LMB?
