Boy am I grateful to have found this place !! ...
New pond last fall , 160' dia. , 11 ft. deep . Heavy clay material , core trench dug 4' below pond bottom , compacted with a loaded dumptruck in 1' lifts .
All was rosy until she was full and at the bottom of my dam I had 3 spots that were showing water . Devastated ! I read every single thread on leaks throughout last winter (while losing considerable sleep)and about May I could take it no longer ... Soilfloc it is .
I thought that my reading had been enough and was literally looking for the best place to make my buy . I reached out to teehjaeh57 . His first statement was essentially (paraphrased a bit)... slow down there cowboy , how 'bout we make sure you really do have a leak BEFORE you start throwing $ at it . Talk about having MY needs in focus !!
A hole was dug at all of my wet spots and a liberal amount of Dye was added to my pond...I used a clear jar to compare pond water and 'wet spot' water.I checked it at least 3 times a day , and ... No dye! Ever! None! No leak!
The location of this pond is on a slope on a part of my property that I did not know very well.I have now since realized that there are many wet spots and a couple of them chose to evidence themselves at the base of my dam...they have just now dried up for the year . Dried up !
I am beyond happy that I reached out to TJ...Big $$ saved .Now comes the aerator!! I just brought 60 amps to the pond...game on .
A huge thanks to all who contribute here and especially TJ.
Peace

Leftfield, welcome to the forum, and thanks for the tale. Yes, TJ is one wise and considerate hombre. He has helped many a pond owner work through their issues and eventually reach successful conclusions.

Welcome to the forum, JD, and thanks to both of you for the kind words. Nothing better than solving issues with ingenuity and teamwork over spending hundreds of dollars! I am happy to help anyone I can - I've made enough mistakes to serve as a pretty reliable guide on more topics than I'd care to admit.
