I've been reading the Forum and figured it was time to join up.

We bought 48 acres here in Mississippi that had an existing 1 1/4 acre pond on it.
It's 8 feet deep in the middle and most of the pond is 3-5 foot deep.

I fished it for a year and never caught much except a few goggleeyes.

Last spring I stocked 700 Coppernose, 50 Channel cats, 110 LMB (half Northern and half Florida strain) and 4 ponds of FHM.

When I put the feeder on the dock, the pond came alive. I didn't know I had some bluegill and Hibreds bluegill/Goggle eyes in it. Been fun catching them.

I'm wanting to get a better feed that what the local Coop has, and after reading posts here, seems Optimal and Purina MVP are the 2 best choices.

I was using a rigged up deer feeder on a 5 gallon bucket but just bought one of those Moultrie 6 1/2 gallon directional feeders.

Which feed would be better for that feeder? From reading, it seems the Optimal feed clogs up more in feeders.

Looks like a nice pond. Someone will jump in who has experience with the deer feeder info. An Welcome to the Forum smile

Both AquaMax and Optimal are good food sources. Either is great for BG. Which can you get easiest ? Try both and see how they work. Not aware of any problems with either working in directional feeders.

Nice looking water and fish (HBG and LMB and CNBG).

Welcome Ddon!

Your place looks good, I see a furry 4 legged fishing buddy out there too.

I have no input on the feeder issue, I hand throw about 3/4 gallon of Optimal as a supplement on my 4 acres.

Have fun with those fish and your place.

I just got my first order of Optimal Bluegill delivered a week ago. I have a deer feeder rigged on PVC floats that I've been running for about a week now and haven't noticed any clogging issues. The reviews I read on the Moultrie directional feeder seemed to imply that clogging was a common problem regardless of the type of feed, so that is why I decided to float a normal feeder in the middle of the pond. Here's the thread on that project if you are interested:

Welcome! I've used Optimal for a couple of years with TH feeders. Only issue was when I used tiny feed, #0, 1, and 2, which tended to clump together in high humidity. Regular BG feed, no issues.

Bass pellets larger than 1/4 inch will probably require you to adjust throwplate, however.

Bob Lusk has had excellent results with AquaMax, so I'm sure it is good stuff as well.

Welcome from deep east Texas! Great looking place and really good looking and healthy fish. Something in there is keeping them fat. Don't forget to subscribe to Pond Boss Magazine. You will love it!!

Thanks guys.
I started feeding them as soon as I put them in.
Fry floating food to start with, then by the end of summer, normal sized food.
Not even sure what brand but I got it from the local Coop.

I think the CN I posted the pic of is one form the initial stocking. I'm pretty sure it's a CN since it has white tips on it's fins.

I caught this one 2 weeks ago. Think it's a regular bluegill female.
