I been a little out of touch lately. I been out of town alot and have been working from daylight to dusk. Anyway i did get my catfish from Texas. I got them at www.herrmannfishfarm.com. As for the blue i have not been able to catch any for awhile. The weather has not been right and i can't catch enough good bait. The gar have been the real problem. i can only put on crawfish for bait and my blues really dont like them the way they like shad. Anyway my shad have not been as abundant as last year due to a giant bass spawn. I didnt even put any bass in but the biggest ive seen is bigger than 5 pounds. There is so many baby bass that they have wiped out my freshwater shrimp and mosquito fish to nothing. Now the young bass are out deep feeding on young shad which isn't going to last long. On the plus side i think i have a good amount of bluegill. The channels just got off the nest in mid june and have not been able to catch a single baby. The only thing i know is that the young bass are going to go. oh yea forgot to mention, bass are excellent bait for hungary channels. Anyway just to change subject a second, sometimes when i'm fishing i smell a sweet smell and when i smell it i catch fish in the direction of that smell. There isn't any thing blooming that does make that smell and i smell this all year long. i was wondering if it is fish feeding because at the coast if you smell watermelon that is speckle trout burping after eating.I dont know if this is true or not but i think it is.

Is this your smaller channels eating the pellets? Do the blues eat the pellets?
Let me ask you, which of your two fish channels or blues, seem to be more hardier, and less suseptible to advers conditions????
By the way, Chime in on that "Flathead" and "Small pond crappie" disscussion......

Well big pond, i only have 1 to 3 pound channels coming in at all the places. No blues to speak of. I think the blues are just feeding on shad for now.
As for the hardier fish, i believe channel cats are the hardiest because when my pond went dry they were last to die. Blues and carp went first. Anyway today i figured out another problem that might be messing with fishing. I caught a bunch of 8 to 10 inch channels while fishing for crappie. I also caught a 9 inch blue cat! they were all caught on 2inch threadfin. These must be spawn fish from last year because there is so many. I tried for crappie everywhere and all i caught were them. I think these little critters pecked all my bait off the trotlines before anything else could get there.
