Quick pond update, ..
Seems to be lots if multiple age class CNBG I Saw some really small ones, seems they pulled off a late season spawn. Didn't see much other than that as it's been cool.
I released 150 - 4-6 inch mullet I got with the cast net for a little extra food. Although with all the little CNBG I'm not sure I need to add additional food this winter.

81 degrees today so I figured it would be a good day to get the fish feeder installed.. All went well. I figured out I should have used a 10 foot post instead of an 8 footer, but it will work it seems. . I have it set to run 8 seconds every evening for now. I also got the artesian well outlet extended to the very corner of the pond. I also dumped in a cast net full of finger mullet just because I could. I saw a tarpon roll on one and what seemed to be a snook suck one off the surface... Assuming snook because of the suction feeding technique .. That is typical surface feeding style for snook..... But could have something else I guess....

yea, really just wanted to show the feeder I guess you were expecting to see a tarpon roll on a mullet, maybe next time. During the winter action is a bit slower they are not feeding aggressively, but feeding.

Ill be out messing around with the pond this coming saturday so I will try to get somthing more entertaining for you.

Bobby, ya might hope that some of those Mullet mature. There was an article in the Bradenton Herald on the 20th that said the run is full on and they are getting $2.20 per lb for whole females. The males are only getting 10 cents. I was at the AP Bell Fish Co on Tues and there were boats lined up waiting to off load. Talked to one captian who said he got 1200 lbs yesterday and 1500 lbs today(Tues) Bet he was one sore dude as they cast net and have to manually haul the fish on
board.

yea, but only smoked, its an oily darker meat fish.
very good smoked, makes outstanding fish dip too.

You guys need to keep your cold weather to controlled please., It is creeping into my area. It's getting into the low 20's tonight and tomorrow night then warming wednesday to high in the 60's and back to 70's rest of the week and weekend. The pond has no overflow drain and the it is capped off with all the rain and back filling into the lawn. So I am worried about being able to run the warm water well with out flooding the lawn upto the drive way. At least its a very short cold spell so I think I will be ok....

You guys are friggin killing us down here in Bonaire with your cold fronts. I was freezing one morning at breakfast and actually had to put on a pair of sweat pants and light sweatshirt instead of shorts and tee shirt.

It was about 73 degrees and probably 71 with wind chill! The locals were all bundled up like it was winter.

Edit: Forgot to add, the water is a chilly 78 degrees. Get cold in a 3-2 mil wetsuit after an hour. Should be 80.

Yea, My fishies would most likey die if it dropped to 3 degrees, This is of coarse was my concern....water temps........

Temps here have been holding steady at -14°F with 15-25 mph winds. Supposed to drop to -20°F tonight.

We can't hog all that cold weather! We know our manners and have to share.

Now, don't be complaining during July, August and early September that we didn't share!!

over night temps got to 26 high of 37 low of 31 tonight then warming steadily tomorrow....

no thermometer in the pond but the pool temp was 54 this morning, had the filter pump running and circulating all night do to the freeze. I feel the pond would be a good bit warmer as the pipes etc from the above ground filtration system would act like a radiator and cool the water quiker than in the still pond.

I think Im going to be fine during this pretty cold snap...

I'd hate to have a pond like yours. I'd end up spending all of my free time fishing to add new fish and castnetting for 2 tons of baitfish every week to feed them. Nope , better you than me.

Bobby, how far are ya from Bradenton? It was 79 here today but only a high of 60 tomorrow. Wish some of the warm would migrate to north Indiana and clear my pond. Been pretty worried.
