How many of us went out and bought a tract of land and built our lake from scratch? Was it a good experiacne? I built mine from start to finish. I did every thing from survaying and buy the tract of land, to getting the core permit for the lake.
It seems to me, that people enjoy stocking and managing lakes and pond more than designing building them. Have you found this to be true?
Which do you enjoy more??
It seems that all the permitting, designing, and construction is far more difficult than the stocking and manageing part.
I think I like building and designing the lake moore...I could sell this project for a good profit and do it all over again...

bought my 200 acre track and started with nothing but a dream.cleared land, dug test holes, found good contractor then built a beautiful lake with great structure and good fishing.and yes,i've had as much fun working on the land and the lake as fishing in it.building the lake was the most fun, watching things come together the way you thought a lake bottom should look like.everybody who likes to fish and hunt should try this even if they do it smaller tracks of land.

I bought an 80 acre tract of land with 2 lakes. A 12 acre lake built in 1951 and a 2.5 acre lake built in 1976. The bigger lake has great fishing with great structure. The smaller lake had a lot of shallow water with heavy weeds and not so good fishing. So I had the dam cut to drain the lake last summer and rebuilt the dam 2 feet higher with a drain. This spring I rented a piece of equipment and cut two channels meeting at an under water hump. I dug out the shallow areas to be 4 feet deep or more and placed stumps and gravel areas for structure and spawning. On April 12 I closed the valve on the drain, by June 10 it was full and ready to stock. Now the lake covers 3 acres. I would say I enjoyed building this lake more than stocking and managing it. I have already started clearing another area for a 4-5 acre lake. Hope to start the dam this fall.
