I finally got to witness some feeding activity yesterday, so I can confirm that my wife wasn't playing jokes on me last week! ;-)

We had a cold snap and rain over the weekend which I think may have slowed them down. It takes a few minutes for them to show up but I think that is because 75% of the feed is ground so small that is sinks immediately. I suspect they are feeding on the falling feed until it is depleted then they turn their attention to floating bits. I kinda wish I had waited to find some smaller pellets. They won't be choking down this AM600 any time soon.

They will eat the large pellets anyway.

They just have to soak up enough so they can get a bite off. The main thing is you do not want wind blowing the pellets up against the bank before the fish can get them consumed. If you used a feeding ring it would keep the feed confined till it got soft enough to eat or to sink. Or you can pre-soak it as has been described on this forum before (put in a sealed jar with some water and let soak for 15-30 minutes till it softens).

As long as you do not have big fish eating up all the feed before it softens enough for the small fish to get some, the fish will utilize the large pellets. Heck I have seen 6" BG work on a Aquamax Large Mouth pellet (a pellet almost the size of a quarter) till they get it consumed. But usually a CC comes along and swallows it before they get it softened up enough to eat it all.
