You are either brave or crazy! My wife thinks I'm crazy, my friends think I'm nuts. Me, I'm just a lawn mower, you can tell me by the way I walk. Ok, off in la-la land tonight. Seems like two nights ago was the last chance for skating, and the pond never really recovered from the breakup. I left two long piles of snow in the middle when I chickened out, and they froze up into some rather significant jumps of solid ice that are not really any fun. Pretty unlikely we will get another long stretch of cold. So after all the work, I only got on it twice this year. It would be cheaper and safer to join a rink.

As a little update, we went from 6-10" of ice to open water in 24 hours two weeks ago. The dew point was 50 degrees (February?!?!?) and I could hear the ice melting as the wind blew across it. The surface of the pond is elevated and not sheltered from the wind, so it goes fast. It sounded like popcorn as the trapped gasses came out.
Skating season is over.

I was ice fishing in 60 degree windy weather on a 450 acre lake last week - that sound of air escaping up drain holes in the ice is very unique. Hopefully the ice will be off my pond quickly!
