I have a 5 acre pond with a self-siphoning pipe system that runs under my levee and drains out the other side. This has been in operation for years, but yesterday I noticed that the whole pipe system on the pond side has floated up. Any suggestions to getting the pipe back in place on the bottom of the pond?

We have capped the other side, and tried pumping the pond side of the pipe with water in hopes of having the water push the pipe down.

That probably means your top vent is blocked or closed.
Has the pond level dropped below the end of the pipe?
What material is the pipe?

If the inlet pipe is below the water yet you could try a trash pump on the outlet side. If you can seal the outlet enough you can create a vacuum. You may be able to suck water thru the system along with the air or gases that caused the pipe to rise. Once the air is out it should sink again.

JJJJ,

Click on "switch to full reply screen" below the reply box on this post. It will open a screen where you will see File Manager at the bottom. It will allow you to browse on your device to where you have the pic stored and add a link to the forum. Note: Pic must be less than 2 MB in size.

Good Luck,

Bill D.

well I ran a 120 foot of pipe thru it today , it was very clean inside , big puzzle trying figure this one out, seems like you would have had to had a machine to pull that pipe up like it is?

Wow JJJJ that is pretty crazy. Here is what I would try. I would try pumping water through backwards (in through the discharge). You could also try to cap the discharge and try filling the pipe with water from the vent I am assuming you have. The water should displace the air and sink the pipe. I still think there has to be, or was, air trapped in it. If you can fill the pipe with water where the water is rising up the exposed pipe the weight should push it down.

One option is too drill a 1/4" hole in the top of the pipe, and wait. If it slowly sinks, it was full of air. If it doesn't, it's not.

Start tying concrete blocks on the end one at a time till it sinks??????

You could clamp a worm gear type hose clamp close to the end (or a pair to make sure it holds) with a rope loop under it to give a tie point to attach weights.
