So I dug out an area beneath an existing spring in order to create a small pond. Surface dimensions are probably 30X60. The ground I dug this on is sloped, so I loose probably a foot of elevation from thethe edge closest to the spring, to the area where the water would drain out. I dug below ground level probably 3.5 feet on the shallow side, and 4.5 feet on the deeper side. Additionally, I took the dirt removed from the hole ad used it to build up the ground level around the pond. This should have raised water levels by another 2 feet or so. However, the pond has filled to the point where it hits the lower end of where I made my makeshift dam and has not filled above that point. Spring flow elevation is not a problem, as the water level is currently at least 3 feet below the spring's water line. So is there any way I can seal this leak up without completely reconstructing the dam, or do I need to go in and reconstruct my dam entirely. and if so, how should I go about that?

Thanks all!

I am not a dirt guy, but without digging a core trench on the dam side to non-permeable sub soils and back-filling with clay, the water will pass through the existing top soil like water through a coffee filter.

So the news is bad, you may need to re-construct the dam and have clay on-hand. You may be able to get away with digging a trench on the down-hill side of the dam and back-fill, but the soil and water will likely collapse into the hole making it difficult to work with.
