we have an empty 5 acre pond that we are filling up next week. we are adding lime to it now. should we do anything with fertilizer or wait until we fill it and test the water.

No expert here but I think it more important you add lime if your pond soil is low PH. In my case I did not fertilize but did lime. The pond had a small bloom after filling which I assume is due to natural nutrients being "turned over" when the pond worked over by the dozer.

Did you get soil samples tested. That will help with the decision. Go slow until you know how your water reacts. I would wait until I saw what it would do naturally.
