Has anyone ever heard of or had the problem of catching a fish hook on the bottom of their pond and ripping a hole in the liner?

I’m about to buy a very large lake/pond liner and I don’t really want to spend the money on laying sand on the entire bottom of the lake. I’d rather pepper a few large boulders to keep the pond liner from rising. If I pepper....could I tear a hole in the exposed liner areas with a fish hook or is that possible?

Any ideas?

It depends on the size of the hook and the line weight.

For the cost of the liner, and the possibility of sunlight degradation over time, I'd cover it with dirt/sand. How will you get the large rocks there without damaging the liner?

Good point. I didn’t think about sunlight degradation.

As for spreading the rock out on the bottom. I always wondered how people did that without ripping the liner. I guess the slowly build a “road” down the center and drive in and out with a rubber track mini excavator Who knows?

If a fish hook caught on a fold, yup its likely to go through if you pulled hard on it
