Hello all. Joined today but will be reading a lot in the coming year or two. I just bought a 19 acre hay farm that I plan to put a 2-acre pond on. The plan is to start on the pond in Spring of 2019... so that gives me plenty of time to read up. Already bought the 2 suggested books and need to read those too.

Hope to learn a lot!

Welcome Bryce

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Another welcome and your first advice. Steer clear of that Bill D dude just to the North of ya. Pat W is somewhat of a shady fellow also.

Welcome!

How far are you from Canton? You might want to call Nate Herman.

Welcome to the forum! If you can get away for a few days in October, consider going to the Pond Boss Conference. You will learn a LOT in a hurry, and you can talk to a number of the experts in the pond industry there.

Welcome! I'm west of you near Hannibal Mo. I've received a lot of great advice here! Lots of knowledgeable folks are here. (Not me!)

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.

The benefit of being in Central IL is you may be closely located to the Herman Brothers. If you are planning a pond especially in 2019, you might call and get on their radar.

thanks for all the info... I have already contacted Herman Bros to see what they charge for a pond consult. That will be the first thing i do.

The biggest issue with my acreage is that it is all completely flat... so will probably be an expensive project!

Welcome Bryce. It sounds like you could avoid a lot of troubles that some, me included, have made. You found PB before you started and will do lots of planning before the dozers are hired! Good luck, ask questions, have fun.
