It's been a while since I've had to come here for advice, but I'm semi confused. I have some FA in very dirty water. I have some kois still lurking in the pond and they are making the water very turbid as you can see.

I've never had FA. Am I possibly over feeding? 1/4 acre pond that is aerated and fed 2 seconds twice daily. I very rarely see extra food.

Lukky, I'm no expert on ponds, but can you contribute the small amounts of FA to a warmer, sunnier, cloudier, wetter, or drier summer that typical? You certainly do not have a FA problem like some. I'm guessing that you are seeing it in amounts for the first time and I am thinking that this years weather has had something to do with it.

How old is the pond? How deep is it now?

Maybe my bump will get the attention of someone in the "know".

What is even more strange to me is that it only appears from midday to Nightfall. It's like it disappears first thing in the morning.

The pond is 25 years old 6 - 7 ft deep

I avoided this thread because the acronym FA in my line of thought could mean Fatty Acid or Fat "Butt".

Algae ramps up photosynthesis midday to point where diffusion does not remove oxygen from cells fast enough to prevent build up. Oxygen builds up forming bubbles causing some of the algae to float up to surface.

The algae is more likely than not attached to something until the sunlight acts upon it. Increasing turbidity could be one way of suppressing it. That could involve the introduction of even more nutrients. Another approach could involve making nutrients, especially those associated with bottom less available. Your Koi will not help that option because of their feeding habits.
