I know many of you pond business folks use google earth to survey ponds to give advice, size up aeration systems, and such. I have google earth and love seeing my place. My image is from 2014. Does anyone know when and if the satellites will update for us rural folks?? lol. I'm not a premium member or anything...just a free one. Does that make a difference? I would like to find out how big my BOW is now that its nearly full...in 2014 its was just a little puddle...lol. I would like to aerate soon, maybe fertilize, but need to know the size of my pond. It isn't a shape...really irregular. I thought about taking my Garmin and walking the shore and doing the math that way, but just curious if there is a way to get a newer image?
Just curious, thanks guys!

Google Earth Pro was a free download, and it will do odd polygons, and give sizes. I have used it to compute the sizes of nearly all the ponds in my neighborhood. Don't know if it's still free, you can try.
Our area updates every year, as the county is tax hungry and pays for it. They use the aerials to find new land improvements and buildings.

You could also try Bing Maps which also allows area calculation free. For me, Bing has an even older photo.

I feel your pain. My last Google earth update was 2/15.
You can go to the local NRCS office and they will have a current map, and can measure it for you. That is what I did.

Check the Google Earth historical imagery function. Should be top toolbar when Google Earth opened. Default image may not be most recent. My default image is 4 years old.

I just checked Google Earth. Historical imagery says the most current picture is today..... BUT, when I look at the image and look at the date, it's from 10-7-2016. That's weird. I know it isn't today because it shows 3 fish cages in the pond and there are only 2 now.
Last one before that was 8-23-2013

BrianL, that may be what I do. I'm as close to full pool as I have been in a long time. Would be a nice time to do it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Know someone with a drone? We have one for surveying feild plots. Still have yet to see what it can see below water surface as a function of lens filters and image processing.

There is an app for your phone called Agri-plot you can walk around your pond and it will give you the size of your pond, field or food plot.
