I have a one acre pond stocked with brown trout. There are groups of thousands of minnows that swim around the edges however today I noticed some different looking ones and decided to catch them with a net. The bigger one was very green the same colour as a largemouth. Other than the trout and the schools of minnows I am not aware of any other fish. Do you know what these are? Note: they are two different fish and didn't really look the same.

+1 Stickleback. I think they are cool. Look prehistoric to me with that spiny dorsal.

Thank you both for your response. The patterns certainly look like that however I didn't notice those spines.

Also one thing: do you think the trout will eat them?

Yes, the Brown Trout will eat Brook Sticklebacks. I am pretty sure Brown Trout eat sticklebacks in their native range.

Do you think the trout will eat all of them. I wouldn't want to loose all of them.

That is likely to depend on an interaction between how hard the trout go after the sticklebacks and how much cover the latter have for their various life-stages. I suspect the stickleback abundance will be reduced enough to not be a major source of food for the trout unless you keep the latter at low abundance.
