Hi all. I have spent a few days reading all your knowledge and i am happy to say i am going to bite the bullet with aeration. I have a small pond located in south houston texas area. pond is 9,500 ft^2 with a small 1,700 ft^2 island in the middle. I am figuring 7,200 ft^2 surface area. I am not sure of gallons maybe some one can help with that but pond is around 5-6' average with about 10% at 10' and most under 5'. I am weighing out either the Big Max kit for 388$ with the two diffuser rings or building my own kit. I am looking at the GAST 82R pumps or the thomas 2660.

If i build my own i will switch diffusers to the membrane 9'' discs. I have read to put the diffusers close together and have also read to put them away from each other. Will either of these systems suffice and what about diffuser placement. I would like to put one at deep end and one around the other side of the island but i am ok with both at the deep end. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

BTW i have been attacked by duck weed and copper sulphate kills have prolly ruined my water quality. Pond is about 20 years old and only aeration i have had is a sump pump churning water in one end that died this year. So i assume i will need to gradually move into aeration little by little. Thanks in advance.. happy ponding.

Our pounds are approximately the same size and configuration. I started aeration with the Thomas 2660 but had to convert to an AFS THOMASS 8011 220 VOLT (sold to me as a new, upgrade unit) due to what operating voltage was available at the pond location. Caveat emptor on who you purchase either of these pumps from given my experience. As a result, I have the 2660 and some weighted hose sitting unused. If you are interested, contact me and I will provide the details of the purchases, the nonsense experienced with the retailer and any other details that may assist you in setting up your system. I am operational at this point but stuck with an 8011 pump that is obsolete, with no rebuild parts available (according to the largest national distributor of these pumps) and every indication that the warranty work completed on the unit is substantially sub-standard. Holding my foolish breath but operational in California.
