When my new .3 acre pond was first filled last winter, the water was crystal clear, vis more than 6 feet. Mid spring, it started taking a green hue, and by a few weeks ago, the visibility was only about four or five inches at most. Two days ago it started clearing again, and by this morning visibility was about two feet. All the fish in there were stocked late winter/early spring. About 20 RES, 20 HBG, 800 FHM, and 58 5-8" CC, plus whatever small YOY late 2016 BG that went over the other pond's spillway in March.
No dead or distressed fish seen. Should I be concerned? No aeration (yet).

My pond went through something similar. It filled up over the winter, but mostly (75%)this spring. Then in June it turned ghastly green. In about a weeks time we received a fair amount of rain that overflowed the 15" drainpipe significantly for a day and a half. This seemed to wash out the overly greenness of the pond and it has not returned to near that extent since. In fact, the water has fluctuated between a dark tea color and somewhat muddy due to rains.

I don't sweat the pond "start up". That's just how it goes, My new pond under construction is in a year where we are a foot above normal rainfall, We are due for a drought but that is just wishful thinking:)
