As the title suggests, I am curious as to whether or not digging a larger pond, say 2.5 +/- acres, is feasibe and if so, what all considerations need be taken into account?
I'm still a younger man, and this is a project that won't come to fruition until later in life, but I'd like to start setting aside money for a piece of property with which to build a house and have a fishing pond. This site would more than likely be in central OK, where the soil types are red clay-y more often than not.
I realize watershed would be a large concern for digging a pond, as it needs adequate inflow, and areas with adequate inflow are normally already watersheds. But what other considerations need considering?
Also, if anyone has any experience digging a pond, please feel free to chime in!
Any and all insight welcome.

You are in the right place. The most economical way to get a larger pond is finding the right land that does not require hollowing out a 2.5 acre hole, but just creating a dam with some excavation from the water-side and land clearing.
Typically a lay of land like that will have watershed, but of course many factors go into filling a pond that size. Worst-case is requiring a well. Best case is a nice high-flow spring above your water line. Bad case is too much watershed.

First, I'd buy Mike Otto's book, "Just add Water". He covers all the bases. That book will be a smart $36 investment that will save hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars when you actually build your pond.

I've referred to Mikes book on a lot of occasions.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
