Ok so last weekend I caught a 22 inch bass and it was only 4 pounds 15 ounces. Chart says it should be about 5.9 lbs. So she was about 10 oz's short and I was a bit worried. Sense then I have caught 3 more bass a bit smaller in length. 2 of them were about 2 oz's shy of average and one was right on the money.

So I guess I don't have a blanket problem I don't think. I think mine may be in a certain size class only. Course that was the only bass we caught that was over 20 inches. The other 3 were in the 15 to 17 inch range.

I was hoping to catch another 20 plus inch just to compare. I think I may not have enough of the correct size forage for that size bass? Just not sure yet..

I caught a 23" LMB from a local lake that was only about 3.6 pounds. Sometimes they get skinny when nearing end of life.

Good answers. It's a female, could be post-spawn or could be old, or both. If it's a northern strain, it's probably old. That fish is not likely an indication of the entire population, just that fish. Keep in mind that big bass eat big meals, and a fish that size can eat a 10" bass, which is likely to happen.

Bob,
Thursday we caught a two year old CC from our pond. At 5 lbs even, and 22-1/2", that's a RW of 119%. Another one at 3 lbs 14 oz and 21 inches RW 115%. The others I have caught are two to 3-1/4 pounds with RW averaging about 107%. Is it an indication of overfeeding, or are some individuals just better feed trained than others, and simply pellet hogs? Stocked at 6-8 inches in Sept and Oct 2015.

Thanks!

That's a reflection of healthy catfish. Some are pellet hogs, more aggressive and faster growing. That's the nature of fish. Some fish are passive, some are timid, while others hog the feed trough. Fish are like other animals in nature, that is, they have their own nature. That's partly why some fish thrive in 'that' environment, while others don't.
