Good news and bad news. I was able to get all 3 diffusers in place and working all by myself! Bad news is after running for only 15 minutes I got a pretty strong rotton egg smell. I didn't expect this for I have never had a foul smell from the pond at all. I realize it is coming from the bottom and I will aeriate 15 minutes each day for a while. It made a dark "cloud" in the water all around the diffusers but went away when I turned it off. My water clarity on the sechi dish is only 12 inch right now. I believe a lot of that is mud from the recent rains and some algea bloom. My normal clarity is about 18 inches. Also, I assume it is probably not a good idea to swim in the pond until the gassy smell goes away and things start to clear up. Bummer for the grandson and his baseball buddies. How long should I expect the smell to be there? Should I stay on 15 minutes a day until the smell is gone? What time of day would be best to turn the pumps on? This is day one!! I'm a newby on this. I bought a Kasco 1/2 hp and triple diffusers.

Congrats on getting he system up and running, Flame. I'd continue running 15 minutes a day until the smell is gone. It shouldn't take but a few days.

Since you have run it several days at 15 min and moved most of the anoxic water out from the bottom, You can increase the run time now 30 min each day until you are at 3 hrs then continuous if needed. Another option is to run it 30 min twice a day 8-10 hrs apart for 2-3 days. Then continuous run.

Btw no problem swimming in stink water. Breathing the gas is not great for you, but swimming in it is no big deal. Green lakes in Syracuse, its a feature!
