I talked with vertex who helped me design a system. I went to purchase it and found it was a little to expensive for me. I have the ability to build my own cabinet, source my own fittings, and hook up the entire system for much less.

I feel bad using them for information and not purchasing, but I cant spend that much more just to show im thankful for their information.

With that being said they suggested a dual rocking piston compressor and 3 dual 9" diffuser setups. one in the 20' area and the rest will be in 10'.

I previously had a 1023 1/2hp gast rotary vane pump 10psi max 10cfm I got for $300 and it was basically brand new. seemed like a good deal.

So a few questions.

1. Since the max PSI is 10 and I don't want to work it at 10 psi constantly to extend the life of the pump. should I raise the deepest diffuser setup 1-2' off the bottom to not push the system?

2. I was planning on running weighted 1/2" ID hose. Will this suffice or should I go up in size. I found 100' increments for $140.00 each or $1.40/ft. Does this seem like a good price? seems like the average is $2/ft

Thanks for the help!

I would go with the 5/8. You can typically get it for 1.75/foot if you find a local aeration supplier who keeps it in stock, but 1/2 would be fine as well, especially if you are connecting the 20' on a seperate line as the other 3.

Can't say much about the rotary vane as I have never ran one. FYI, you can get a 1/2 to 3/4 HP dual piston pump from good dealers on Alibaba for about the same amount as that Rotary.

I have a similar pond as you, except 2.5 acres with max depth of 11'. I use a double at 11 and 5 singles at 7 near the 4-7' dropoff.
