Stocked 9 weeks ago. Feeding BG jr for 7 weeks. The 5" fish is the biggest I've caught by far.

Nice growth

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Now at 15 weeks fish measures 6" I have noticed a mystery fish hitting the top of the water I can't seem to catch to see what it is.

Nice! I stocked BG March 31st (most around 2" and under) and mine are no where near this size. I have seen a few that are maybe 3 inches but are still to small to swallow a whole piece of feed. They still peck around at it.

To my untrained eye that looks like very very good growth. I'm ready for mine to get big enough to venture out and boil the water at feeding time. Do you have any tricks of the trade you could share?

The optimal bluegill and bluegill jr seems to be doin good. Catching quite a few in the 6.5-7.25" range now. Also a lot of these small ones are showing up. Looks like some type of hybrid

Bottom one appears to be a GSF to me.

Definitely looks to my untrained eye to have strong traits of a GSF

Dfou - all your pictured fish so far are male BG except the last one which is a green sunfish spotted by two other members..

Wonder if I have more males or if they're just growing faster than the females. What about these two males or females?

Normal BG populations are 50/50 M/F. Often they segregate in a pond so fishing may give a high % of one or the other. Where did you get the fish ?

Dfou - In my best opinion the second set of BG pics you placed on 7-10-17 are #1 young male and #2 young female. This is all based on the size and shape of the gill flap (opercle). These appear to be immature fish so sexing them is risky for accuracy.

Parkers fish farm. These were all caught near the feeder in a small area. The kids like to catch not fish and they're always easy pickings next to the feeder

Couple from today. Not sure if #1 is a GSF or a hybrid. Had a really blue color overall. #2 is really dark even it's eyes looked black

I'm no expert, I'm not even an novice, but I'm pretty sure that #1 isn't a GSF.

Gfou - #1 picture posted today 7-22-17 has a lot of GSF genetics in it, maybe pure GSF. I am not familiar GSF from LA. It is likely a female with a belly full of eggs, although the main spawn season for GSF in LA is past. I doubt it is a hybrid and I know it is not even close to an F1 generation HBG. I would have cut it open to verify eggs or a belly full of pellets.

I agree with Bill.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

See, I told ya I wasn't even a novice. On second look, I blew the picture up where I could see and I was wrong. I was looking for blue/green markings and didn't notice any until I blew it up. My eyesight isn't good.
