First off, let me say thank all of you for such a great resource. This forum is a treasure trove and I find myself lost in it for hours at a time since finding it.
I bought a small property, north of Decatur, TX next to the grasslands, a few years ago that has an old pond. IT is about .4-.5 acres, no more than a few feet deep, and no fish that I've seen. I know from from the NRCS office pics of the property that the pond goes back to at least the 70's.
I would like to drain it, dig out the silt, resculpt it for BG, LMB, and maybe some catfish. I was hoping to get the names of a couple reputable pond builders in the north texas area.

Welcome neighbor, I'm just south of Bowie, off Picket Run Road. Mike Otto, in Lindsay, is about the best in the business. However, he is currently tied up on an Oklahoma job.

The NRCS keeps a list of companies/individuals who register with them for pond work. The down side is that there are no qualifications on being added to the list. Any dozer driver can ask to be added and some of them are useless for pond work.

This won't be done quickly. First it has to be drained and you will have to hope that it doesn't rain. That's generally July and August for us. You will find quite a few feet of silt, maybe 5 or 6 feet, that is the consistency of pudding. Dozers can't do much there and it might need a track hoe. Next, start figuring out what to do with the junk that is removed.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Without a sense of urgency, Nothing ever gets done.

Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley Rancher and Farmer Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP
