Anyone have a good source for a good throw net.

We have two fish fries each year. One Mothers day weekend and one Fathers day weekend.

The boys and I love to fish but need to make a live well to hold the fish until we have enough to process up. We really would like to put them all on ice at the same time.

So was thinking that if I had a net we could throw out, that was round and then pull it it we would have good luck sorting 15 good fish quick all at once and put them on ice.

We could get a better understanding of the different populations of fish we have and year classes.

I've seen them at WalMart and also at sporting goods stores.

Dono, outside of a cast net for the sampling reasons, if you have a cage I just used mine as the "live well" kept in the pond until I was ready to cleam them for a fish fry. Kind of my holding tank. And if you've never thrown a cast net, I personally would start with a smaller one (5' at Walmart) as it's almost an art throwing those things (at least for me anyway).



If you don't have a cage I've also used a large tote drilling 1" holes on all sides and drilled holes where the lid latches, then ran rope through those holes as a tie-down for the lid and a way to keep it tied to the dock. This always works well when fishing Minnesota and we rely on our catch to feed us during the week we're there. Sorry I don't have a picture of that one!

And yes, for many of you pondmeisters I know it's a sad sight seeing all those healthy BG in that cage knowing they're going under the knife, but under my circumstances it was necessary.

Are those cut down pool noodles for floats?

Up at our camp in Ontario we have two shopping carts put together with the door as one end. Nice stainless keeps very well.

I do have a few extra totes kicking around.

You sure you got enough fish? Growing boys can eat!

I was catching and cleaning that many weekly and got pretty darn good with the electric filet knife on them. And according to my family I have enough until I run out, which will not be for quite some time! Although nary a decline when I mention fish fry .

That's my Great Nephew in the photo. I had many family and friends helping and never enough kids.

Dono - I think if you try and use a cast net to catch your yellow perch your success will be poor. the YP mostly stay deeper and as soon as the net hits the surface the YP will swim out from under it. You may get some success if you throw it when the fish are up near the surface feeding but it won't take them long to figure out how to escape the net.
