I thought that it would be fun to hear some of the unusual observations others have made of their fish or lakes.

We commonly see bass of 4-10 individuals moving and hunting as a group. Surprisingly (at least to me) there are usually both LMB and SMB in these groups. We see them hunting fathead minnows by driving them up to the bank and then catching the fleeing minnows. Grackles (like blackbirds but bigger and longer) will fly along the edge of the lake until they see a group of bass about to hunt. They fly to the bank just in front of the bass and freeze. When the bass attack, it is easy for the grackle to get a minnow and off it goes.

We ocassionally see the same type of behavior with bass and catfish. In the evening, we see catfish crusing just 4-5 ft. off the shore. In some areas we have very heavy submergent vegetation. Somehow, the bass can sense when the catfish are going to attack. A group of bass will surround a patch of vegetation. The catfish will dive right into the thickest vegetation and get a meal. The other little fish in this vegetation will flee and the bass will get an easy meal also.
