Hello all. I am a new member of PB although I have been reading PB Forums for a while now. I have recently finished construction on a new 1 acre pond and have been hammered with rain immediately. I like the idea of homemade pvc trees but I am wondering if bamboo would work just as well. I plan on filling 5 gallon buckets half full of cement and jamming bamboo limbs in them. Please tell me your opinions and ideas and hopefully someone on here will have had experience using bamboo. thanks.
Build it and they will come, whether you want them to or not.

Eventually they will need to be replaced, but they are an ideal substrate for the colonization of a healthy periphyton, thus providing a food source.

If the bamboo is large(1 inch thick or more) it will last a very long time underwater, but I would recommend PVC if you can get some cheaply or free. Try asking at your local electric cooperative; they likely have lots of scrap PVC pipe of various sizes in their recycle dumpster.

I like the idea of using bamboo as I cannot bring myself to add plastic or rubber to my pond. I know this is silly, but I add branches but not tires or PVC pipe. I have a grove of bamboo so this might be an option for me.

Don't be afraid to mix up the materials by adding some wood/bamboo, maybe some hardwood stakes and some PVC. The more variety the better!

I'm hoping the plastic is so old that all the fumes have dissipated.
