Anyone know where to get Purina Aquamax MVP in North Texas? Local places in town only carry Purina Game Fish Chow (Feed Store) or Sportsman's Choice (Tractor Supply). I like the idea of multi-sized pellets, which the other two have as well, but I know the MVP is a better quality and higher protein content. I asked Tractor Supply if they could order it and they said no. I need to check with the feed store. I went in right before closing and hate bothering people when they are 5 minutes from going home for the day.

My local farm store only stocks Purina GFC but has been able to order any other Purina fish food I wanted (AM400, AM500, AM600, AM LMB, and AM MVP. I would "think" that any Purina shop could order Purina foods they don't stock.

I want to note that it took several months for my farm store to talk to the right person in Purina to get the finally get the MVP.

Thanks dj. I stopped into my local feed store this morning and they did only keep the Game Fish Chow on the shelf. Well they try. It apparently sells out quickly. But he showed me a list of all of the Purina products he can order and he can pretty much get them all. Now he is looking into price and if there is a minimum order requirement.

Just got a call from the Feed Store manager. He said he can definitely get the Purina Aquamax Sport Fish MVP (and other Purina feed) anytime I want. He said it runs $39.95 a bag. Is that about what others are paying? The Purina Game Fish Chow is $29.99 a bag. From what I have read it is definitely worth the extra $10 a bag right? Thanks.

That sounds about right. I think last year I was paying 42 or something like that, but the price is going to vary according to ingredient cost at time of mfg and also shipping to different areas.

If your goals are to grow big fish, especially for carnivores such as bluegill, MVP is a much better product. If you want to feed catfish, the grain-based feeds are better.

I pay a little over $40 for MVP, AM600, and AM LMB. Not sure why but the last two bags of AM400 I paid $60.

The AM400 is always higher price. For sure because of the higher protein content, perhaps because the source of protein and perhaps because the smaller pellets are more costly to make.

thread with MVP and other AM pictures

I just mostly like feeding them Bob! That is as much fun as fishing for me.

But I haven't been able to train those catfish to stay away from the MVP. grin Although the way the BG tear it up, there often isn't much left over for them.

Something I have not tried, but I might. If I mixed in some 32% catfish food in with the MVP, maybe the BG would turn their noses up at that food just long enough for the CC to get it. I might try it here in another month just to see if I can discern any change in fish behavior at feeding. I do all hand feeding, at peak season around 6# per day total around the shoreline on a three acre pond and a one acre pond.

The elevator in the small IL town near our place is a Purina dealer and said they receive a shipment every week or 10 days and I could order MVP no problem.

Getting a little giddy as my TX Hunter LM135 arrives Wednesday (according to UPS tracker) and the elevator called and said my MVP was in....picking that up on the way to our place on Saturday. New to feeding fish and can't wait to start. LMB, HSB and BG getting stocked into an existing small (1.6 acre) pond at the end of this month or very early April.

Going to spend this Saturday (if it quits snowing) assembling and mounting the feeder to a small dock we built a few weeks ago and then giving her a test drive before the stockers arrive.

Anyone with experience know how quickly the new fish will start taking what the TH feeder slings them after they are stocked? These fish are all already feed trained. Adult 5"-7" BG, 1-1.25 lb. LMB and 5"-8" HSB. My guess is they will initially be disoriented but after a day or so will come to the MVP as hunger takes over. Is that correct? Thanks. BM61

I don't have experience feeding adult fish but the 3-4" BG, feed trained 6-8" LMB and 8-10" HSB I just stocked have progressively gotten more awareness of feeding each day. After 3 days I would say probably half of them are showing up now. Just a guess.

I need to preface this with the statement that this is my first ever piece of advice given to anybody on this forum since I am new to all this as well. May be way off base but I would either feed by hand in the location of you feeder or turn your feeder to throw as little as possible until you are sure the fish have figured out the schedule. Don't want to waste the feed or taint the water with excess feed. Just my thoughts.
