It looks like I need around 20 tons of lime for my 7 acre lake.
Question is:
I cant afford the cost to have a barge come in and spread the lime across the surface of the pond. So I am wondering could I just have a dump truck load of Lime dumped in a central spot and then I can move it around with my bucket / tractor into some areas where rain will wash it into the pond?
Will it cause harm if hits the water in concentrate as the water washes it in?

Pinetar, I will be applying 250 gallons of liquid Lime and 500 pounds of Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) next Sunday on an 8 acre lake. 5 gallons equals one ton of Ag Lime.
Piling your lime in the pond won't hurt...nor help at all, except in the small area it's placed. Wind wave action won't spread it either. To gain benefit from the Ag Lime, it needs to be finely pulverized 100% passing through a 60 mesh or smaller) and it needs to be fully exposed to the water on the entire bottom.
Ag Lime if derived from Dolomitic limestone has a max pH of 8.4, and from Calcitic Limestone, 8.2....that is a very safe pH, so no concentrate concerns.
What is your current pH? A HIGH quality pelletized or pulverized lime is more expensive than crushed Ag Lime, but much easier to spread.

So if I need 20 tons of lime then I need 100 gallons of liquid lime? What is the cost of Liquid Lime?
My current PH is 5.8 average. Taken from 10 samples

Is the AG lime not pulverized prior to it being delivered? I am sure the farmers etc who are using lime from the COOP for there fields / crops etc are not " finely pulverizing 100% passing through a 60 mesh or smaller" are they??

Anyone have experience with this product? It says that two bags of Neutra Lime Dry are equal to 2000 pounds of limestone.
NEUTRA LIME DRY
Put added value in every tank with NeutraLime Dry. Nothing balances soil pH faster. One 40 lb. bag contains 50% more CaCO3 than the highest concentrated 2.5 gal. jug of NeutraLime Liquid. It promotes germination, enhances plant establishment and improves nutrient uptake longer. Plus, store NeutraLime in a dry place and there’s no limit to its shelf life.
50% MORE CALCIUM CARBONATE THAN LIQUID LIME
1.0 CHANGE WITHIN 10 DAYS
2 BAGS ARE EQUAL TO 2000 POUNDS OF GROUND LIMESTONE
NO SHELF LIFE, LASTS LONGER, MINIMUM EFFECTIVENESS IS 18 WEEKS
Packaging: 4 – 10-lb bags per case
CASE OF 4 10 POUND BAGS OF NEUTRA LIME $ 49.95
NUTRA LIME DRY CAN NOT BE APPLIED WITH A SPRAYER. IT MUST BE APPLIED WITH A HYDRO SEEDING SYSTEM. (LIQUID LIME CAN BE APPLIED WITH A SPRAYER OR HYDROSEEDING SYSTEM.

Have to question your statement of "Piling your lime in the pond won't hurt...nor help at all, except in the small area it's placed.
obviously water does not stay in place in a BOW. so how will this water that has been exposed to the lime not be moved around the BOW by wind, wave, current etc and in turn effect the PH of the entire BOW? I have several springs that feed my pond/lake as well as runoff creeks, ground water from heavy rains etc. which create a movement of the water as well.

Can you have them bring it in a spreader and back up to different areas and throw it out with the spreader?

That's the way our line was put out. Driver backed up to the edge and slung it out there then moved down and did it time and again til all out.

For those who have not seen this - pics of lime truck at work. This is standard procedure. Barge is not necessarily needed. Put it in the water not in drainage area. The more of the pond bottom covered the better.
