I recently bought some land in Vernon County, MO and have a 10 acre fishing pond. It hasn't been managed in years and is surrounded by trees but is surprisingly void of aquatic vegetation.

Visibility is somewhere around 12 inches. I think between the tree shade and visibility that could be a little better that has led to the low vegetation.

I also have a 30 acre muddy shallow duck lake that is about 2 foot deep but holds water almost year round with little fluctuation.

I love to fish and duck hunt. Can anyone give me some recommendations on aquatic pants for each lake that might be good for fish and ducks in these region?

Also any recs on places to buy plants and time of year to plant would also be greatly appreciated. I assume it's not recommended to relocate plants from local ponds due to invasive risks?

Thank you in advance

Sorry GatorAg, I can't help you, but have similar questions. So, maybe my bump will help us out.

I live in Pettis county Missouri and my small shaded pond will be full this spring. The pond only gets sun from mid morning to mid/late afternoon. It is now free of muck and should hit 10 feet deep at full pool. 60% of the sides are steeper than ideal due to the ravine it's made from however the shadiest portion is the shallow end and approximately 50 feet by 30 feet will have shallows from zero to 4 feet deep. In the past, I believe the crawdads kept the vegetation nonexistent by eating it and keeping visibility at nil (the old mucked in pond only had 2 feet of water in it).

Where do we start researching plant life for shaded pond?
