i fish a very nice 40 ac lake in north kansas we routinely catch 14-15 inch crappie and sometime 16-18 inch my buddy makes me throw back any fish over 14 inch because he wants to grow "monsters". I do not think that this will have any effect. any comments--??

Would need more info about the whole pond system to really give good advice. 40 acres is big and little, there is a respectable chance of catching the same fish twice. Every 14 inch fish you keep will never get any bigger.
Do the crappie reproduce?
What is the forage and predator relation ship in the pond?
Read up on some of the other species management practices the forum has discussed. Crappie is kind of unique

How old is a 14" in crappie in texas? In south dakota, that puts them older than 5 I believe

Putting more mouths in a BOW will not help grow trophy fish. You have to have a program to only put back the best of the best. Any low RW fish should come out. They are not doing as well as the higher RW fish and will only eat food meant for the higher RW fish.
2 cents only.

In a 40 acre BOW, I seriously doubt that one or two people can change the fish dynamics in the lake by any legal recreational angling means.
If he is so adamant about throwing the biggest ones back, have him fin clip EVERY crappie that he throws back and next year have him keep a record of how many of those fish he catches a 2nd time.
I'd be willing to bet he doesn't catch even 1% of the fish he returns to the water, if any at all.
