High time...too bad the big dogs don't care enough to invest in this technology and invest in our planet. Anheiser, Miller, Coke, Pepsi - shameful! Way to go, Saltwater brewery!

Now if they could just make water bottles and plastic bags out of that same stuff, WOW!

I hear packing peanuts are finally available in biodegradable form, too. Sadly most companies funnel capital towards marketing and CEO salaries, instead of investing in learning how to become better stewards of the environment.

we'll get there TJ....i'm not a scientist but if we do get there maybe another guy from the plastic industry that stands to lose a lot of money will write a negative article about how "maybe" the new stuff might be bad....

I also want to believe we'll get there eventually. And while I'm not naive enough to dismiss the plastic guy's motives, neither am I ready to gloss over a piece of feel-good journalism, simply because I wish it to be true. Not without asking questions first.
And the same question the evil plastic man hints at, is the same one that lead me to him in the first place. How many times on this very forum, have we debated the merits and consequences of various formulations of aquatic feeds? How often have we discussed grain by-product in fish feed, along with its perceived value to the fish?
The argument could be made that in our case, we are feeding substantially higher amounts of the stuff in our ponds, so effects on marine life in our oceans will be negligible. But will it really? The proponents of the edible six pack make it sound like the oceans are half covered with plastic, so maybe those fish and turtles will be dining on it everyday? Who is correct, and who is spinning their version of the truth?
I'm betting the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Additional research might shed more light on what sounds like a great idea. I sincerely hope so.

Tony, I had trouble buying the idea that just about all plastic winds up in the offshore waters.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Of course this is not the end-all...be-all...cure for cancer answer...but it is an exciting step in the right direction that we should encourage from "evil" corporate America and not be kill-joys because it's not from the "feel good" EPA.

A good idea is a good idea. I don't see how it matters who came up with it. It seems I may be alone in that regard, however.

You were the one throwing around descriptive terms like "evil" and "feel good".

I apologize Zep. I've evidently misinterpreted your reference to "another guy from the plastic industry who stands to lose a lot of money", by claiming "maybe the new stuff might be bad", as having a backkhanded meaning. I'm sure your reference to the epa was intended in the same, non confrontational manner. Sorry for finding invisible ink between the lines, where some so obviously doesnt exist.
I think you're on to something Theo... why bother with making the stuff edible for marine animals, just make it delicious to people...then it would never get thrown away in the first place.
Nacho cheese flavored plastic....Mmmmm! Love it!

Vetting is good. I don't care which side you are on. Facts are facts. Rarely are the facts so simple. This is a complex world and interactions and unintended consequences are important and often overlooked. That said, anything that helps us take care of our world is a good thing to talk about and implement when appropriate.
And since we are trying to feed marine life, how about CNBG flavored.

I would use mine for lures, and just think of the flies George would have tied using them.

I couldn't get by his grave-site because the person I was with was a wreck and wanted to leave right after the funeral. Beautiful place where George rests.
