that Nebraska might have a new state record redear sunfish on the books. Caught last night ice fishing on public water. the official weight was 1-14, 11.75" Pictures are posted in the link.

Shorty, I don't recall but what is the largest size that you and other PB members with awesome RES catches have posted? It seems like someone was close to the 2 pound mark last summer?

I haven't weighed any of mine but my longest one so far went 11" on October 4th 2016, she was released.

My money is on you Shorty to catch the new record from your pond!  Only other PBF member I recall that caught a state record fish was Cecil's YP and Indiana didn't recognize it as a record because his fish was pellet fed.

I can't even imagine a RES of that size, and I'd put my money on Shorty too!

Rumor has it that this new potential state record RES was caught at Wildwood lake which is just seven miles straight east of my place.

Is length of warm water growing season the reason deep southern RES get so much bigger? If that's the case, then why do CC reach maximum size near the Canadian border?
