The state of Illinois has announced that 32 Conservation Police Officers, i.e. Game Wardens, (who have the same rank and duties as regular State Police Officers) will be laid off as of January 1, 2017. Twenty of these officers are current Wardens and 12 are newly trained. Yes, these 12 graduated from the CPO Training Academy earlier this month. Their next assignment will be “laid off”. Maybe training new officers just to lay them off doesn’t sound like a really sound idea. But then it is Illinois.

As one who grew up in the Land of Lincoln and has good knowledge of IL state and local (St. Clair county specifically) government, I can tell you that is exactly par for the course. I am completely not surprised. Fortunately I now live in Missouri. Best of luck to those losing their jobs. BM61

I wish Arkansas would hire more wardens! They could stop a lot of illegal netting of game fish around here. Deer poaching is rampant too, but I am ambivalent about that, with the wasting disease going on and the deer overpopulation.

The last time I had a conversation with a game warden he told me that he spent most of his time on drug intervention.
