I am hoping to attract the attention of PB forum fish gurus, and in particular those who may be working in an academic setting. I never had the honor of meeting Dr Willis, but this would probably have been right up his alley. I am wondering if there are any grad student/PhD candidates out there still looking for a research thesis. The basic premise would be a comparison study of the effects of biologic vs chemical control of filamentous algae. Specifically, I am hoping to lend evidence based support for the use of tilapia for FA control. The fruits of this research could potentially influence the DNR of those states that currently prohibit tilapia use except in RAS type systems (like in the state of Iowa). It could also potentially shed light on the question of the ability of tilapia to become an invasive/pathologic species, especially in BOW in the northern states in the US (i.e. those that freeze over in winter or drop below 45°F in the winter). Any takers? I am willing to lend my support in whatever fashion I can, including the use of my 2.5 acre pond in central Iowa.
"Politics": derived from 'poly' meaning many, and 'tics' meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.
