We've had a pretty rough stretch here in upstate NY water wise for almost the past year. It has gradually eased over the past couple weeks and now 2.5 inches in the last 24 hours and about that much more on the way will help bring the water table back a bit. A few local lakes are down a couple feet. My lower ponds kept full pool all summer with help from the springs that feed them, but my upper pond lost about half its depth. Heading down shortly to put the sliding windows in Dads new deer stand and check on things. I had plenty of bank to work with and to help control vegetation in my largest pond, I raised the overflow pipes about twenty inches a couple weeks back. Two days ago it was six inches from full, should be there now. This will put this ponds level about thirty inches higher than the smaller one next to it, which has much less flow and occasionally through this summer has been slightly below full pool. I plan to install a small under ground pipe between them this coming spring to allow more water to the smaller pond at times as needed. The tweaking continues...

Same here, we wound up with over 4.5 inches of rain last week, but even so we are still 6 inches below average. It was amazing to see that much rain not amount to any runoff, though the pond did gain about 6 inches.

Now we have some early snow in the forecast. Last time we had October snow, it was relentless until May. 3 years ago. I still have a twitch.

I remember that winter well, and hope to miss a repeat of it!
Skaneateles lake, near me, rose 13 inches in a few days. Seventeen miles long and over a mile wide, coming up like that... takes a lot of water!
Leaves are down enough now to get an idea of what the view from my new home will look like. Just need to clear a bit more below. Looking forward to morning coffee and meditation here and sleeping in the spring and summer to frogs croaking instead of the "chirp-chirp" of some moron locking his car at 3 a.m.
