Fish have been active last night and this morning. Caught 3 red ear on a minnow pattern, one was 11 inches, the rest considerably smaller. That makes me wonder just how selective the re are. I catch re almost every outing, even when strictly top water fishing. Maybe mine are just hungry.
I probably couldn't catch a re if I was targeting them though!

Sounds like you have a good population of RES. That is what I hope to get to. I'm raising RES fingerlings in my forage pond and putting them in my main pond trying to increase the population density.
I would like to be able to catch some every outing.

snrub -- Since they only breed once a pear I would think it would take a long time to add many to your fishing pond.

Probably.
I already have a population in my main pond from my original stocking and a later supplemental stocking. What I add from the ones I am raising in my forage pond is just supplemental to the original stocked fish.
I've probably added to my main pond fifty RES fingerlings from my forage pond and also maybe half that many from my sediment pond. Hard to tell how many of those get eaten, but likely some make it because I am starting to catch a few of the hybrids at 5-7" that were added as fingerlings. So not all of them have been eaten.

CMM, congrats on fly rodding the RES! Let alone an 11 incher! WOW! We need you to be armed with a camera so you can shoot some pics!!! (I think I know what's on the other hip, but don't use that to shoot the Red Ears )

Ha ha Keith! I went out early Sunday before breakfast and forgot my phone. I wanted a pic of that one with the little minnow pattern in his mouth. And now I have a photo bucket account, I can post a pic or two.
