I see in some websites Barramundi (Lates calcarifer) is said to be Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides). But according to scientific name on wiki that doesn't seem the case. Do they just look and taste similarly? Or is there any linkage between them?

No, they are entirely different species.
