I have seen mentioned many times "purchased" golden shiners this will possibly an issue.
I am wondering if wild populations of GSH have this issue to the same degree or at all.
If you stock from farmed GSH it can be safer in regards to several things. However , specifically regarding Pleistophora ovarie would you be better off with shiners sourced from other than cultivated GSH?
Also, are GSH the only shiner that is a real concern. Do other shiners species have the same issue?

Better is a subjective matter. Wild fish populations are not nearly as likely to have the problem.

Like FHM, spot fin or Black tail shiners etc.?

Like ewest said, not a problem, but it has been observed in FHM. http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1112&context=usfwspubsAlthough P. ovariae evidently has the potential to infect fathead minnows as well as golden shiners, it may never be a serious problem in this species because of the short life cycle of the fathead minnow.

The only issue I've had in the past with GSH, is their size. If they are not eaten by predators, they can grow pretty big. I stocked some 2 years ago when the pond was new and caught one this past spring in excess of 5" long on a tiny hook & nightcrawler. I understand that they can get much larger, but their mouth gape is so small that they shouldn't create to big of a problem.
I also have Gambusia and FHM in the mix. They don't seem to be a problem.
