Good news on the GBH front...judicious use of loud noise making projectile delivery engines managed to convince the GBHs that were making my big pond a home to move elsewhere.

Which immediately proved that nature abhors a vacuum. Within a week or so of my last GBH sighting I now have as many as 4 GWEs (Great White Egret) at any given time on the pond. And based on my reading thus far, other than the coloration and slightly less horrid call they're basically the same bird from a pond management perspective.

For some odd reason though they don't annoy me nearly as much as the GBH did. Not sure why. I'm sure that'll change the first time I see them eating a pan sized BG.

I also get some Egret's from time to time, but they are not white they are like brownish looking and about half the size of a GBH. They do make some gosh awful noises though hey....

The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!

I have two green, one great blue, and two kingfishers that are around in the mornings.
I've always had an abundance of bullfrogs. I was going to harvest some this year. Then my pond which had been down as much as four feet, due to draught and leak, came up 3 feet. All the weeds that had grown up during the low water, we're now under.
I thought it would help the frogs. I think I was wrong. It appears to be helping the herons. My frog population is declining.
My tadpole population though is almost at saturation.
I guess nothing will eat a tadpole. Ha

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.
